+ WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TED AND TEDX?

A TED Conference is a 5-day live event with ticket prices reaching thousands of dollars. They feature speakers from around the world and attendance is by application. TEDx (x = independently organized) events however are one day or less, are live and the organizers and speakers are local. The ticket prices are less than $100.00 and attendees seldom need to apply to attend.

+ WHAT IS TEDXUALBERTA'S VISION?

Our vision is simply to share great ideas on a local stage and create a community of curious, proactive individuals. We aim to do this by organizing and producing an annual conference that highlights a diverse range of challenges presented by local leaders and innovators who also provide optimistic solutions to those challenges. In addition, we’d like to harness the creative energy of the university’s members to address these solutions.

+ WHEN AND WHERE IS OUR 2017 CONFERENCE THIS YEAR?

Our 2017 conference will be taking place in the heart of Edmonton, at the Citadel Theatre (Maclab Theatre) on February 25th, 2017.

+ WHAT IS THE THEME OF THIS YEAR’S CONFERENCE AND WHY?

The theme for our conference this year is “rebooTED” which encompasses our goal that the conference serves as a catalyst to support the growth of innovation within Edmonton. We hope to achieve this by establishing an environment that will allow connections to form between individuals who are passionate about similar causes.

+ WHO WILL BE SPEAKING AT THE CONFERENCE?

Our speakers are being released periodically on our website and Facebook page! Please do like our Facebook page and stay up-to-date on our event page.

+ HOW DID WE CHOOSE OUR 2017 SPEAKERS?

Our executive team has ardently surveyed and consulted with community units and resources both on-campus and off-campus to evaluate individuals in the local sphere who would excel in their role as speakers. In addition, we also accepted nominations from the public on our website, which were assessed by our team for their potential in reaching our target audience and integration with our theme.

We are not able to facilitate any formal connections with speakers, due to matters of privacy, but you are welcome to reach our speakers through the links provided on our Speakers page.

+ WHY DID WE CHOOSE THIS VENUE?

After our inaugural conference last year which was held at The Club (Citadel Theatre), we received a lot of praise and positive feedback from our speakers and attendees. This year, we wanted to harness that momentum and expand our reach to include more participants and contributors, so we worked with the Citadel Theatre to choose a venue that was well-known by the community for its amazing facilities and support. The Maclab theatre and lobby serve as ideal environments for encouraging innovation and collaboration.

We are really excited to have the opportunity to continue working with the phenomenal staff and support available at the Citadel Theatre for our 2017 conference!

+ HOW DO I GET TO THE VENUE?

The Citadel Theatre is located in the heart of Edmonton’s City Centre. We recommend taking the Light Rail Transit (LRT) to Churchill Station, and walking (~2 min via pedway) to the theatre.

+ WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE ON THE DAY?

Doors open 20 minutes before the event begins, but we encourage you to arrive 1/2 hr early (1:30PM) to get signed in before the conference starts!

+ WILL COAT CHECK BE AVAILABLE?

Yes - coat check will be available for $2.

+ WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

Yes! The Citadel Theatre is wheelchair accessible. There is an elevator leading down to the Maclab lobby; wheelchair accessible seating is also available.

+ IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

We respect that dress is a matter of individual self-expression so there is no strict dress code. We ask that attendees refrain from wearing anything with offensive logos, out of respect to others. We will also have a coat check, which can be accessed for $2.

+ WILL ANY FOOD BE SERVED AT THE CONFERENCE?

Our conference will be broken up with two breaks and one dinner; we will be serving light hors d’oeuvres and a meal at these times, respectively. There will also be a cash bar available.

+ CAN I TAKE PHOTOS AND/OR VIDEO AT THE CONFERENCE?

Talks will be recorded for viewing afterwards on the TEDx YouTube channel. If you desire to take photos during the talks, we ask you to turn off the flash. During breaks, we encourage everyone to capture the evening and share across Facebook and Twitter using #tedxualberta2017. We will be featuring content that uses the conference hashtag on our page! Snapchat geo-filters will be present so we encourage use of these during the breaks, networking sessions, and dinner.

+ WILL I BE ALLOWED IN IF I AM LATE?

You will be allowed in if you are late, however, out of respect to speakers and patrons, we highly encourage you to arrive early for sign-in.

+ SCHEDULE OF THE CONFERENCE DAY?
